User Commenting in Cumulus 8 describes a brand new feature that enables users to add comments to assets they preview. Comments become part of the asset record’s metadata, so they’re searchable and visible to other users. “Sticky notes” or rectangles can be added as comments, and each comment also contains the creating user’s name and a date/time stamp, so it’s easy to see who suggested what, and when.
Imagine some of the new capabilities User Commenting makes possible:
Change requests made clear – Don’t bother going outside Cumulus to approve an asset, or submit change requests. You can add comments to any file that can be previewed by Cumulus, including images, InDesign layouts, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, HTML Web pages and more. Enter your changes right on the asset preview, so they’re clear. Plus, you save time because you don’t have to detail exactly what portion of the asset you’re talking about.
Imagine it: “Please crop into this area,” instead of, “Please crop it about a quarter inch from the top, three quarters of an inch from the left, a half inch from the right, and half way between the lower edge and the dog’s chin.”

Each comment shows who created it and when. Rectangles make it easy to identify regions, while text comments are useful for global suggestions. Once entered, Cumulus makes it convenient to browse and edit comments from other view modes.
Search an archive of comments – It’s easy to see exactly what changes were asked for during production, or anytime thereafter, because all comments are searchable and they stay with the asset record indefinitely.
Imagine it: “That’s not what I asked for!” arguments forever silenced—or avoided—because change requests are always available for verification.

Search for the content of comments and find all asset records that match. This means you can find asset based on comments you added to them, instead of having to recall their names or other information.
Ideas exchanges between users – Catalog conceptual sketches for products or websites, and let others contribute ideas right from within Cumulus—collaboration at its best! Everyone can see the comments of others, so it’s easy to get a conversation going without scheduling time-wasting meetings.
Imagine it: Sketch out your ideas for a new product and gather input in a central location—avoid the email circus of attachments that each contain one person’s input only, and know you haven’t missed anyone’s input before final decisions are made.

Idea collaboration becomes easier, because users don't need to download or email copies of assets, and designers can see everyone's suggestions in a single location.
What can you imagine doing with User Commenting and Cumulus 8?
